In 1995, a group of peaceful First Nations protesters occupied Ipperwash Provincial Park as part of an ongoing 50 year old land dispute. The riot police came to breakup the protest and Dudley George died. *2017 update: Ultimately in 2007, the government returned the land to the Chippewas of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation and they now run it as a park and resort.
